Our Mission
To be a welcoming spiritual community, encouraging lives of integrity, service and joy.
Welcome to the
Unitarian Universalist Church of Hamburg!
Whether you are a long time member or
are visiting here for the first time,
you are welcome.
Whether you are old or young, rich or poor,
gay or straight, whatever the color of your skin
or your ethnic or religious background,
we welcome you to our community
of hope and possibility.
We would love to have you join us.
Sunday's Service, May 11
Please join us for church this Sunday, May 11, at 10:30am. Day Cummings will be our speaker for a "Mother's Day Celebration." She will give us a brief overview of the history of Mother's Day in the United States and of Mothering Day in the United Kingdom. There are many types of mothers, and Day will elaborate on how the English honor living mothers. She will conclude with a story about birth. You are invited to bring a short reminiscence of your mother, and if there's time, we'll ask you to share your memories.
Day is a retired registered nurse. She is presently a licensed clinical social worker, mainly specializing in the field of bereavement. She started a non-profit organization, the Circle of Daughters, that offers support services and therapy to all age groups for those who have experienced a loss. She has spoken with us several times in the last church year.
Sunday, May 18
Please join us Sunday, May 18, at 10:30am, when we will have our Annual Congregational Meeting. This is an important time for us to evaluate how we're doing. UU congregations organize and supervise themselves, and this is a time to look forward. What are our plans for the new year starting July 1?
At the meeting we will adopt a proposed budget for the new church year, elect new Board members, discuss our contract with our Minister, and review our present church year. Please note that Wendy and Andy Hvisdak are at the end of their three-year Board term, so we will need two new Board members.
The church will have bagels and coffee to enjoy during the church service. You're welcome to bring a snack or other goodie to share too.
Be sure to check out our News and Events page to stay up to date on activities!
